The research of the Chair for Communication Technology from the University of Kassel focusses on innovative technologies and applications that address challenges in mobility, healthcare, e-learning, digital work, smart cities, and the future of the internet. A particular emphasis is placed on the development and use of context-based applications, supported by artificial intelligence (AI) and enhanced mobile experiences.
Research Focus Areas
- Traffic Safety for Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs):
- Investigating solutions to improve the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and other vulnerable road users.
- Analyzing IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) data to detect physical activities such as turning, starting, and stopping.
- Developing AI-driven algorithms to predict movements and enhance traffic infrastructure.
- Interactive User Interfaces for Smart Cities:
- Creating innovative interfaces to interact with intelligent urban objects, such as traffic lights, tourist attractions, or environmental sensors.
- Integrating Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) for immersive and intuitive user experiences.
- Application of AI and Advanced Algorithms:
- Optimizing AI methods to increase efficiency and scalability across various application areas.
- Employing context-based systems capable of understanding and responding to human behavior and environmental factors in real time.
- Use of AI in a hessian trade, like a butchery, for Monitoring and Improving Production Processes (Example: "Ahle Wurscht Meets AI").
- Mobility and Connected Systems:
- Exploring connected communication systems to enable safe and efficient mobility.
- Integrating sensors and IoT technologies to improve urban infrastructure.
Technological Core Aspects
- Artificial Intelligence: Developing and implementing advanced algorithms for a wide range of applications, including traffic safety and smart cities. This also includes participation in the hessian.AI.
- AR/VR Technologies: Designing immersive virtual environments and augmented realities that simplify interactions with intelligent objects and data.
- Sensor Integration: Utilizing IMU, camera, and environmental sensors for data collection and real-time processing.
